Pulpit Guidelines for Guest Speakers
We appreciate your willingness to spend time ministering to our
local Church congregation. We have
prepared some ideas for you to consider, as we seek to be good communicators of
God's Word to His people here.
1. Be
yourself, remember that preaching is truth communicated by people with
personality.
2. Speak
simply, so that all can understand. Our
congregation is a wonderful mix of races, cultures, and generations. Consequently, many of our people do not
speak English as a first language ... so plain English without a lot of
idiomatic expressions will communicate best.
3. The
finest illustrations are derived from your own life and experiences, but try to
eliminate those that require an intimate knowledge of your culture, homeland,
or upbringing.
4. We
seek to be worshippers and prayer warriors – mastering the basics of prayer,
the Word, fellowship, and evangelism.
We strive for teaching that originates in God's heart, who instructs us
by His Holy Spirit. The best messages
are those that unite us and build us up.
The following themes need to be constantly reinforced in our
hearts and minds until they are part of our spiritual bloodstream:
a. practical
Christian living
b. the necessity
of Holy living
c. the
character of God
d. identity
in Christ
e. the
Lordship of Christ
f. union
with Christ
g. growing
in Christ
h. the
indwelling Holy Spirit
i. the
marks of a disciple – radical Christian living – serious commitment
j. stewardship
k. meditating
constantly on the Word (Joshua 1:8, 1Timothy 4:6)
l. obedience
to the Word
m. prayer
n. priorities
of the Christian life: God, body of
Christ, ministry to the world
o. unity
of believers
p. the
priesthood of all believers
q. basic
Christian doctrine
5. We
try to end our Sunday service at about
12:30.
